    10 in a Row

Ryan Smith, Syntech Biofuel, and a Season That Tested Everything
Blog 96 syntech biofuel holbonphotography 10 in a Row Ryan Smith 10 times consecutive champion helmet presentation

    Happy Friday Friends,

There’s dominance, and then there’s Ryan Smith. Ten British Truck Racing Championship, back-to-back, is not just impressive, it’s motorsport history being written on six wheels at 100mph, usually sideways, with a crowd on its feet and the air thick with diesel-free adrenaline.

For us at Syntech Biofuel, it’s been an absolute rollercoaster following Ryan this season, a year that will go down as his most brutal yet. It wasn’t all champagne and trophies. Far from it.

It was frustration, penalties, rule changes, and the odd “you’re kidding me” moment, wrapped around weekends of grit, laughter, and sheer determination. And yet, after all that, Ryan still stood on the top step at Brands Hatch last weekend, champion again. Ten times in a row. Ten!

Let’s just pause on that for a second. Ten consecutive British Truck Racing Championships. That’s Lewis Hamilton/Michael Schumacher territory, but with 3 more championships and with 5-tonne beasts doing the dancing.

The Year of the Restrictor (and Other Headaches)

This season, Ryan wasn’t just racing competitors, he was wrestling with the rule book. The sport’s governing powers decided to “even the playing field” with new air inlet restrictors. Sounds technical, but what it meant was simple: Ryan’s truck had its lungs half closed while the rest of the grid got to breathe freely.

As the Championship unfolded, Ryan faced a few unexpected challenges that kept everyone on their toes. Each race brought a fresh twist – from close calls on overtakes to split-second decisions under yellow flags – turning every lap into a masterclass in focus and resilience. Rather than slowing him down, these moments showcased his skill and dedication to win.

But here’s the thing about Ryan: he thrives on adversity. The man could probably win a race in a milk float (Google it kids) if you gave him enough time to tweak it. The more the odds stack up, the more dangerous he becomes.

And through it all, Syntech Biofuel was right there, in the paddock, in the pits, in the thick of it. We weren’t just sponsors, we were part of the ride. Watching Ryan take on the season’s madness was like watching a heavyweight boxer in a street fight,  gritty, raw, and absolutely thrilling.

Highs, Lows, and a Lot of Noise

Motorsport is one of those rare things that’s both beautifully simple and maddeningly complex. You’ve got trucks, tracks, and talent. Then you’ve got everything else, weather, luck, nerves, and the occasional driver who forgets that mirrors exist.

This season had it all. The lows were real, blown races, head-scratching penalties, moments where Ryan’s frustration was so thick you could feel it in the air.

But the highs? Pure gold. Watching him come from the back of the grid to snatch a podium. Seeing the team pull together when everything was stacked against them. Hearing that unmistakable roar from the Brands Hatch crowd when he crossed the line for title number ten.

And trust me, the roar wasn’t just from the grandstands. In the Syntech camp, there were a few of us doing a decent impression of a victory parade ourselves. If there was a trophy for “most relieved and delighted sponsor of the year,” we’d have taken that too.

Why Syntech Biofuel Backs the Champ

People sometimes ask why a clean energy company like Syntech Biofuel sponsors a sport that’s historically all about diesel and noise. The answer is simple: because we’re here to prove that performance and sustainability can coexist.

Truck racing and motorsport is one of the most extreme testbeds imaginable for innovation. These machines are brutal, powerful, and unforgiving, just the kind of challenge we love.

Our partnership with Ryan isn’t just about logos on a lorry, it’s about showing the world that you can still go fast, still win, and still move toward a cleaner future.

Ryan’s success mirrors our own philosophy: push harder, innovate constantly, and never back down when the rules change. He doesn’t take shortcuts, and neither do we. Whether it’s finding cleaner ways to power transport or supporting the transition away from fossil diesel, Syntech is in it for the long game, just like Ryan.

    The Man Behind the Wheel

For anyone who hasn’t spent a race weekend with Ryan Smith, here’s a glimpse: he’s one of the most focused, funny, and fiercely competitive people you’ll ever meet. He’s also probably the only man alive who can drink tea, sign a thousand autographs for young fans, and prep for a 1,200-horsepower sprint at the same time.

Off-track, he’s genuine and grounded. On-track, he’s a force of nature. Every time he straps in, you get the sense you’re about to witness something special and more often than not, you do.

That combination of raw talent and relentless work ethic is what makes him great. But what makes him truly special is that he brings people with him, his chief mechanic and miracle worker Arnie, the team, his fans, his sponsors. When Ryan wins, it feels like we all win.

    Ten and Counting

Brands Hatch was the perfect setting for the crowning moment. The crowd knew what was at stake. You could feel the tension in the air. And when Ryan crossed that line, you could almost hear the collective exhale from everyone who’s followed his journey this year. Ten titles. Ten seasons of dominance. Ten reasons to believe that hard work beats politics, penalties, and even physics.

To mark such a monumental achievement, we wanted to do something truly special, something that captured what “Ten in a Row” really means. So, at Brands Hatch, the Syntech team presented Ryan with a bespoke celebration crash helmet designed exclusively to commemorate his tenth British Truck Racing Championship title. And what a masterpiece it turned out to be.

The helmet was hand-painted by the incredibly talented crew at Panel Match Body Shop in Derby, who poured their artistry, skill, and patience into creating a stunning design worthy of a champion.

For Syntech Biofuel, it’s been a privilege to be part of it all. We’ve seen the blood, sweat, and diesel-free tears that go into making a champion. We’ve lived the chaos, the camaraderie, and the sheer passion that defines truck racing.

And as for next year? Well, I wouldn’t bet against number eleven.

Because if there’s one thing Ryan Smith has taught us, it’s this, no matter how many obstacles you throw in his way, he’ll find a way to win. That’s why he’s a champion. That’s why we back him.

Here’s to Ryan Smith – the 10-time British Truck Racing Champion, and to the unstoppable spirit that keeps the wheels turning, both on the track and at Syntech Biofuel.

Until next time, thanks for reading, have a beautiful weekend.

    Mike.
