All I Need Is The Air That I Breathe And To Love You
It’s World Health Day on Sunday-What About A Breath of Fresh Air for Our Planet?
Happy Friday friends.
Hey there, eco-warriors and sustainability enthusiasts! It’s your friendly neighbourhood green guru, Mike Olone here, to chat about an event close to our hearts: World Health Day. Now, I know what you’re thinking – health and the environment? What’s the connection? Well, hold onto your reusable water bottles, because we’re about to dive into a world where our well-being and the health of our planet intertwine like vines in a rainforest.
First things first, let’s talk about the air we breathe. Take a deep breath in… Ahhhh, do you smell that? Hopefully, it’s not a whiff of pollution! Air quality is a big deal when it comes to both human health and the environment. Poor air quality can lead to respiratory issues, allergies, stokes, obesity and even cardiovascular diseases for us humans.
Infact the World Health Organisation advise that around 7 million people die every year as a result of air pollution related causes, that’s a huge number, more than all the deaths caused by Malaria, TB and HIV added together. That’s shocking ain’t it?
But guess what? It’s not just us feeling the burn; our planet is gasping for clean air too! With carbon emissions choking up the atmosphere, it’s like the Earth has been put on a strict diet of carbon monoxide and particulate matter. Not exactly the kind of cleanse it was hoping for, we need to decarbonise, quickly!
Now I don’t want to get all Feargal Sharkey but let’s talk about water – not just any water, mind you, but the lifeblood of our planet. Clean water is essential for our survival, but it’s also crucial for the well-being of ecosystems worldwide. Unfortunately, our water bodies are drowning in plastic waste, chemical pollutants, and other unmentionables that even a mermaid would turn her nose up at.
Feargal’s absolutely right by the way, the water utilities we pay to deliver our drinking water pollute the UK’s waterways to such a horrific extent that one of them was just fined £90 million for releasing sewerage into waterways and the sea.
So, when we think about health from an environmental perspective, we can’t ignore the fact that what we do to our water, we ultimately do to ourselves.
Ah, the joys of sustainable living! It’s like a game of Tetris, but instead of fitting blocks together, we’re piecing together a puzzle where every piece counts towards a healthier planet. From reducing single-use plastics to embracing renewable energy, and transitioning to sustainable biofuels, each action we take ripples out like a positive contagion, infecting others with the desire to do better.
Let’s not forget about our furry, feathered, and scaly friends. Biodiversity loss is no laughing matter – unless, of course, you’re a hyena having a chuckle. From the tiniest ant to the mightiest elephant, every species plays a vital role in maintaining the delicate balance of our ecosystems. So, when we talk about health, let’s widen our scope to include all creatures great and small. After all, we’re in this ecosystem together!
Picture this: a world where our cities are teeming with lush greenery, where wildlife roams freely, and where the air tastes as sweet as a summer breeze. It’s not just a pipe dream; it’s a vision of what could be if we all band together and take action for a healthier, more sustainable future.
So, my fellow Earthlings, as we celebrate World Health Day, let’s raise our reusable cups to the interconnectedness (I might have just made that word up tbh) of all life on this magnificent planet. Let’s pledge to tread lightly, to make choices that nourish both body and soul, and to be the change we wish to see in the world – one compost heap at a time.
Remember folks, the health of our planet is not just a trend; it’s a lifelong commitment. So, let’s roll up our sleeves, put on our gardening gloves, and get to work creating a world where both humans and Mother Nature can thrive. After all, there’s no planet B – but with a little elbow grease and a whole lot of heart, we can make planet A the healthiest, happiest home for all beings.

Until next time, stay green, stay groovy, and keep fighting the good fight for a healthier, happier planet. Peace out!
Thanks for reading, have a beautiful weekend.
