Syntech ASB Sustainability
When we say ‘The most sustainable fuel made in the UK,’ we mean that no other liquid fuel manufactured at scale in this country today can match our combination of lowest lifecycle emissions, domestic waste feedstock, independent sustainability certification, and local economic benefits. Unlike imported HVO or crop-based biofuels, every litre of our fuel is made from UK waste, certified under ISCC, and delivers up to 93% carbon savings against diesel. That makes it not just sustainable, but the most sustainable UK-made fuel available right now.
How we define “sustainable”
- Lifecycle carbon intensity: Syntech ASB has the one of the lowest gCO₂e/MJ of any UK-produced liquid fuel, verified under ISCC/RTFO methodology.
- Feedstock provenance: 100% UK-collected waste cooking oil (UCO), avoiding imports that risk ILUC (indirect land use change) or sustainability fraud and all associated carbon footprints of import.
- Circular economy: Taking a domestic waste product, closing the loop, and turning it into a high-value transport fuel rather than relying on virgin crops or palm derivatives.
Evidence vs. competitors
- Against HVO: Most HVO in the UK is imported (often from SE Asia) with questionable feedstocks (PFAD, POME). Even when sustainable, the embedded transport emissions and ILUC risks are higher.
- Against fossil diesel: DERV is fossil, ~90 gCO₂e/MJ. Our fuel is ~80% lower on a lifecycle basis.
- Against UK FAME producers: Syntech’s plant efficiency, off grid renewable power use, and tighter waste traceability, can argue our emissions intensity is lowest in class.
Independent standards and accreditations
- Audited and accredited: ISCC, RTFO, RFAS, ISO 14001.
- Public data: DfT carbon intensity tables (RTFO default values) can be used to show our UCO-to-Syntech ASB pathway has the lowest carbon footprint of any certified UK fuel pathway.
